The makingmecrazy Happenings

April 12, 2010

You know, I never thought this house buying business was going to throw me for a loop, but at last it did and continues to do so.

I’m surprised I’m not in the crazy house yet, you know, because I’m so pleasant to be around when I’m all flustered.

Just ask my husband.

Pssht, whatever, he is too.  He ain’t no peach.

Where was I?

Oh scatterbrained, that’s how my brain works these days.  A little here, a little there, a little left back there, a little stuck under there, a little everywhere.

From my last post, I left you hanging… sorry.

We bought a house.

No really, we bought a house.  Signed purchase agreement.  Wasn’t a short sale or foreclosure.  No more having to worry about Bank of America

We decided that we didn’t want to sit on a teeter totter and wonder if we’ll make the April 30th deadline for the $8,000 tax credit with the house since it was a short sale and with Bank of America.  It wasn’t that we didn’t like it, because it was truly a lovely little pad and a great place to label as “our first home” when it comes to buying anything, but because of the short sale and the worry and concern about hitting the 4/30/10 deadline, we decided to continue looking just to make sure we weren’t losing out on anything.  We started looking at homes that were a regular sale, not a foreclosure or short sale.  We were going to stay away from townhomes just because it’s harder to find townhomes that accept german shepherd’s and sometimes they can be harder to sell.

We looked at 3 or 4 places one weekend, one was a townhome, 2 or 3 others were houses.  The houses were okay, but would need quite a bit of work to get up to par and the funds were not there to do that on our part.  Most needed new carpet since the prior carpet was beyond repair, one house was over 100 years old but just remodeled on the inside however still needed a big revamping on the outside and another house was just not for us.

When we pulled up to this place, I kind of got that feeling of… this could be the one… something grew on me about it.   It was a townhome, but something soothed my mind about not having to worry about yard work or outside maintenance or general expenses that come with owning a home.  It’s not that we don’t ever want to have a single family home of our own, it’s just that right now we are trying to get on our feet and this isn’t going to be the last place we move to.  I’d feel much better moving and purchasing a single family home if we had money put away in savings, so the thought of a townhome was growing on us more and more.

Then we walked in.

And it grew on me.

On the 23rd of April, we will be closing on our house.  Our offer was accepted the same day we put it in and within 2 hours.

We’ve been busy gathering all of our things from storage and random places.

I’m driving 87 miles one way to work right now with a break half way in between to meet my carpooler.  Thank God for that little break otherwise I think I would have gone crazy a long time ago.  And, it’s nice to have someone to talk to on the drive especially if we’re stuck in traffic.  I got pretttttty damn lucky at finding a carpooler that works at the same place and also just bought a house a 2-3 miles away… works out perfectly.

Anyways, we’re busy.

Really busy.  And driving alot.

But I’m having fun day dreaming about painting and decorating and having a place of my own again.

We are living with Chris‘ parents right now.  They have a 4 bedroom 3 bath house but considering it’s a 4 level, split, makes it about only equivelant to 2 levels, and they have 2 dogs, we have Duke, Chris‘ brother lives there and his girlfriend just moved in …we are all nice and cozy and easily flustered.

12 days and counting.

For now I’ll spend my days in crazy mode and attend garage sales (another post in itself) and search craigslist and buy furniture for a fraction of the price it was originally bought for (another post for another day) and dream about my king size bed and own kitchen and own bathroom and big closet and garage and…

…until then.
