Show and Tell… a weekend up north.

May 3, 2009

Chris and I got home a few hours ago from spending the weekend up north.  I brought my camera with hopes of taking lots of pictures since we were going up to the cabin and hunting land… but no, of course I forgot my charger.  UGH!  So, I settled for 3 louzy pictures on my phone.

Our weekend was pretty low key actually.  I picked Chris up from work at 3 on Friday afternoon (he was working days the past 2 weeks) and we started the 1.5 hour trip to his parents house.  Once we got there, we threw our stuff in his parents vehicle, and me, Chris and his dad got back in the car and headed another hour up north to the cabin.  We stopped and had dinner on the way; and there is just something to be said about being up there and at the cabin.  I would absolutely LOVE to live up there but unfortunately there are no good paying jobs that fit Chris or I… so, for now it will have to remain a weekend trip/cabin.  Anyways, we had dinner and then drove around and went deer looking.  Holy crap, there are lots out there… we seen probably 60 Friday night, right at dusk.  We got to the cabin, Chris‘ dad hooked up the furnace, made sure the water was fine (no one had been up there all winter) and hooked up the DirecTv.  Then, unfortunately there was mouse crap around – not a whole lot, but enough to gross me out… I hate it, ick ick ick… and I can’t sleep if I know my sheets might have had mice on it – I just can’t stomach that… so Chris and I got back in the vehicle and headed back to a little town about 8 miles away to get some laundry detergent.  Once we got back we washed all the sheets and blankets, and finally everything was all dry and done at 12:30am… and considering I had been up since 4:30 that morning, I was ready for bed.

We got up Saturday AM and drove to the hunting land which is only about 15 minutes away and we walked all around the 120 acres and Chris is moving his deer stand and his dad is moving his, so they were planning everything out.  Chris brought up 2 of his guns and I brought up mine and Chris‘ dad had 2 of his there so we shot a little in the open land.  Ha!  That happens to be the 2 of 3 pictures I took this weekend – or Chris took.  I have a Marlin Pink .22…. I’m a nerd, I know.  Ha!  Since I don’t have all but 2 pictures to show – I’ll show you what the hunting land looks like! :o )  You can see it here – you can click on whatever set you want!

So, in honor of…

Show and Tell

…I show you…

We finished up on the hunting land after spending most of the morning/afternoon there and headed back to the cabin and fiddled around there for a while and took ticks off of us (UGH, another GROSS!).  Eventually we were ready for dinner and drove 30 minutes north to Brainerd/Baxter and had dinner at Grizzly’s!  I had an appetizer meal – 2 mini cheeseburgers and fries… since I am trying to eat healthier, I figured I didn’t need to get a big old huge burger with tons of fries, and I wasn’t too hungry.  I only had 1 small fry (only because it was stuck into one of my burgers and I didn’t know it), and the 2 small/mini burgers – I didn’t touch any other fries.  It felt so good to not even feel tempted to keep eating, even if I was full!  Once we were done, we headed back to the cabin… went deer looking again, and made our way back to relax.  I read 2 blogging books while Chris and his dad watched Not Another Teen Movie and we headed to bed around midnight again.

This morning we got up, packed up our stuff and headed back to his parents house.  We sat there for a few hours, relaxed, visited with his mom… then his mom made late lunch/early dinner and we headed home around 3:45!  We stopped and got a few groceries and got home around 6:30/7pm tonight.  We haven’t done much other than watch TV tonight… driving that long almost every weekend kind of sucks, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.  I love going up there way too much.

Now… it’s 9:30pm and I have to be up at 5:15am!  Good night all, hope you had a great weekend!

Looks like you had a blast! I’m not much of a hunter, but I do love to go to our cabin. We haven’t been in along time. I must fix that.

Wow, Mr. C would love to have 150 acres to hunt on! I just love the wilderness aspect of it. I bet you can get some amazing pictures there!

And ticks and mouse turds totally gross me out too. Except since we live in the country, I’m always fighting against the stupid mice, especially in the chicken coop. Argh!
